There is a bit of confusion about whether you will need a visa to go to Europe in 2021. I was also confused. While I need a visa every time I go to Europe? Is it going to be complicated and expensive?.It’s not that at all.
After reading all the post and articles about this subject, Here is the lowdown.
This is not only for Americans but also for Canadians and 60 other countries ,so Americans are not being picked on.United States citizens will be required to undergo a pre-screening and registration process called the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before entering European Schengen-zone countries.
The Schengen area is comprised of 26 countries, including Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Currently, Americans are allowed to travel visa-free to these countries for less than 90 days with no prior screening.
Best time to do this is of course is prior to buying your airline ticket although the approval is pretty immediate. This can be done as late as 72 hours prior to you departure (but why wait)
Here is how it works ; traveler applies online via etiasvisa.com filling out personal information, passport information as well as several other questions about health , criminal record etc. you will need a valid passport, an email address, and a debit or credit card to pay the nonrefundable fee of 7 Euros.
The application is then checked across several databases. If the application is not flagged to be looked over manually, a decision will be reached “within minutes,”.
If an application is denied, the applicant will receive a reason as to why and will be able by providing additional information to get approval.
