Abandoned places . Safe for now. St Pauls School. Garden City NY.

Driving by yesterday on a rainy day, I though it a perfect time to photograph this grand building.

Listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, St. Paul’s School is one of the most substantial historic buildings on Long Island, and now it’s one of the most threatened.

St Paul School opened in 1871 by Cornelia Steward in the High Victorian style.                      It consist of 500 rooms . It was a military school for boys in 1883 some pretty famous people attended this school including  Fred trump sr. and  Theodore Steinway chairman of Steinway and sons who graduated in 1900 , to mention a few.

It is a shame that they would even consider this edifice for demolition. Such beautiful places with heart and soul need to remain, as they are beautiful reminders of a classier time. Architecturally it is magnificent.

I am sure this building can be used as Art galleries , event spaces.  concert venues etc… An amazing botanical garden could be done with the 40+ acres of land.

I even once heard it was haunted, but people always say that about uninhabited places. .

I photographed the outside as permission is needed to enter the premises.

Here’s to hoping that this beautiful property finds its proper  place in this modern world.

  1. hi garden city citzen here, the reson why st.pauls stood abandoned after it went bankrupt was because the garden city historical soscity protected it from being torn down like its sister school st.marrys(i think that was the name) yeah yeah you know the story it got on history land marks its protected
blah blah. what you may have not known is that it was found that the building materials (that was everywhere) contained a leathal amout of asbestos and other dangerous chemals. the reason is because st pauls was made in 1862. asbestos and lead and other thing we see as posioins were use very comonly for a wide rage of uses. they are debating what to do with it not because susan on the board of directors think its a “waste of space “and is a “sore thumb” its becasue it can kill you if you take a deep breath in the wrong places to many times. so no its no safe dont trust any renivation conscepts that doesnt inculd ethet they need to fix the problem of you getting lung cancer. we all tryed for years to come up with a solution to you dieing a painful but slow death. but we never succeded in this problem and everyone is just ignoring it. sometimes people froget that this is a state and National Registers of Historic Places. that means that it is protected by law to be preserved and keep the history around it. so its not only uneffical to try to make st pauls into a idea that is unreconizeable
the mayor is trying to convince people to vote to make st pauls (a school all boys that has exsited since 1830 and made my the founders wife as a momoral to the founder) and the mayor wants to turn it into a giant commuty cent there. there is like a mile of an empty felid on each side. THE FEILD IS ALREADY USED FOR MANY SPORTS. AND IN THE LATER YEARS ST PAULS GOT A GIANT BASKETBALL COURT THAT IS ALSO USED FOR MUTIABLE OTHER EVENTS, A THEATER/BALLET HALL WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR ETHEIR OF THOSE ALREADY BUILT IN AND THERES THIS 3 BUILDING ANYWAY THE BEST PART ABOUT IT IS THAT ALL 3 ARE CONNECTED THRU A SERRISE OF TUNNLE LIKE PASSAGE WAY AND CAN SHAVE OFF 5 MIN OF YOUR WALK AND THIS TIME THE NEWER BETER BUILDING, DOESNT HAVE CHEMCEALS THAT MAKE YOU SOULD LIKE BATMAN USING A RESPERATOR

PS SORRY FOR TYPOS IM JUST TO LAZY TO FIN THE
